PianoArc at the Met in Musical Bodies Exhibition

PianoArc is honored to be included in the Musical Bodies Exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Open to the public from June 7 through September 27, 2026, the exhibition explores the human body’s capacity to create music—both independently and through its interaction with instruments, technology, and the material world.

For this installation, the PianoArc team spent the past year developing an entirely new circular instrument and support system. The latest PianoArc design features 288 keys arranged across three contiguous musical sections, visually defined by the surrounding illuminated arcs. One section spans 10 octaves (120 notes), corresponding to the full range of human hearing and representing the largest known keyboard range ever incorporated into a musical instrument. Two additional sections, each spanning 7 octaves (84 keys), expand the instrument to a total of 288 notes across 24 octaves.

Supporting the installation is a newly developed stand known as the Sumo, featuring dual sweeping tubular supports that provide extensive adjustment of both playing angle and height while emphasizing the instrument’s sculptural presence.

PianoArc continues to serve as the keyboard industry’s boutique source for distinctive and custom-designed instruments. Its inclusion in the Musical Bodies exhibition recognizes not only the instrument’s sculptural qualities, but also its unique place in contemporary music technology as the world’s only circular keyboard controller.

Following the exhibition’s conclusion in September, the PianoArc instrument created for the Metropolitan Museum installation will be made available for acquisition. Interested collectors, institutions, performers, and studios are invited to inquire about the opportunity to own this one-of-a-kind instrument. Pricing will be announced at a later date.
